Hi - My 5 1/2 year old is having intense sleep separation issues overnight. She is waking up a few times each night and coming into our room, looking to be tucked back in and/or have one of us sit with her. When we ask why, she tells us that she is uncomfortable being alone in her room. She goes to bed okay. It's the overnight she struggles with.
I read about the sleep protocol but I'm not sure how to adapt this to overnight. I welcome any thoughts or suggestions from others dealing with something similar.
Hi Kathryn, This kind of sleep issue ia common occurrence in kids who struggle with anxiety. The sleep protocol is a process for many, not a single one and done kind of thing.. I also recommend communicating to your child in a specific phase of their sleep cycle as part of a protocol that has been scientifically proven to help (not part of SPACE however I've seen tangible results for over ten years as a clinician) . I invite you to reach out to me privately for more details.
