Hello fellow practitioners,
I'm a school psychologist in Australia (Canberra) and we have recently adapted SPACE for anxious school refusal (an identified service gap). The pilot program showed promising results (reduction in parent accommodation and an increase in parent self-efficacy, along with an increase in student school attendance, and an unexpected-but not suprising-reduction in family conflict). We've almost finished a second round of two groups, and it's looking like results are will be even better!
Does anyone know of the program being used in a similar fashion? I'm looking forward to connecting with professionals and networking specifically in relation to SPACE.
Regards,
Tamar
Tamar, That is very exciting news!
I have a website where I provide information and resources for families who have school-avoidant kids. I have been watching out for outcomes using SPACE treatment for school refusal.
I will follow this thread.
I am really excited to learn more about the mechanics of how you are implementing this with the parents.
The parents and school professionals I communicate with would greatly value this information. Would it be possible to speak w/ you about your experiences at some point?
Thanks Jayne
